Profile
Stephen Cheung, Psy.D. is associate professor and associate director of clinical training in the Department of Graduate Psychology. He has studied, practiced, and taught psychology and psychotherapy in a wide variety of settings for over 30 years. Before he came to APU, Cheung had spent 12 years in administrative, supervisory, and clinical work at Asian Pacific Counseling and Treatment Center (APCTC), a large multicultural community mental health center in Los Angeles. He now focuses his teaching on improving self-awareness, knowledge, and effectiveness in clinical psychology students.
Cheung is currently researching immigrant mental health and specific treatment approaches for such mental disorders as eating disorders, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorders, and childhood maltreatment. He is also interested in multicultural psychotherapy, community mental health service delivery systems, and solution-focused brief therapy.
