Gift Policy and Procedure

The Library accepts gifts form donors who understand that any materials given to the Library become the sole property of the Library. Whether print or nom-print, titles will be reviewed in the same manner as new titles are selected. Those materials which do not support the curriculum will not be included in the collection.

Unlike large universities, where bibliographic librarians are responsible for the disposition of all gifts, the liaison librarians are responsible for books relating to their liaison departments. Gifts are divided by subject, placed on designated shelves, and evaluated by liaison librarians. Subject bibliographies are checked and classroom faculty may be consulted before a title is included in the collection. Those which are not to be included are placed on shelves with others which, at the discretion of the liaison librarian, will be:

  1. Given to a school, department or faculty member of APU
  2. Sold to students of APU
  3. Given to other institutions, or
  4. Discarded.

All donors receive an acknowledgement of the gift received, but it is the policy of the library not to set a value on the gift.
